Training objectives

Present and practice veterinary diagnostics for Taenia saginata and Taenia solium.

Techniques/topics included in the training

Theoretical overview with results interpretation, Western blot, meat inspection & dissection of predilection sites, PCR-RFLP, Ag-ELISA, T. crassiceps model, morphology, differential diagnosis

13:30-17:30: Laboratory: Demonstration + training Western Blot (LD BIO)/Ag ELISA, results interpretation (A. Van Hul)


8:30-12:30: Visit slaughterhouse (Heist-op-den-Berg) (±45 min. drive): demonstration meat inspection (L Claes). We meet at the entrance of the campus at 08h30!

12:30-13:30: Lunch break (kitchen)

13:30-17:30: Laboratory: Demonstration + training dissection predilection sites: cyst n° and stage identification, differential diagnosis: T. hydatigena, Echinococcus (S. Gabriël),

16:00: Agora classroom: Morphology: adult tapeworm (I. Potters)

19:00-….: Dinner in “De Peerdestal”, Wijngaardstraat 8, Antwerp
